Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

As any major prize-giving event nears, there’s always a demand to include fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Just some logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences globally and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier game development, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
