PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
